He was a finalist for the best student paper award at IEEE ICCA 2019.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hi Xuyang, describe your role as a postdoc at Digital Futures and why you applied for this fellowship mobility program?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; I work as a data\u00a0scientist\u00a0in the division of decision and control systems. I applied for the\u00a0fellowship mainly because of two\u00a0reasons. First,\u00a0this fellowship allows me\u00a0to\u00a0choose\u00a0research problems\u00a0flexibly. I do not need to restrict myself to certain\u00a0scientific problems. Second, I can work with world-leading scientists in my research area through this project.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>The title of your postdoc project is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalfutures.kth.se\/research\/postdoc-fellowships\/postdoc-project-distributed-optimization-and-federated-learning-in-emerging-smart-networks\/\">Distributed Optimization and Federated Learning in Emerging Smart Networks<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 tell us a bit about it? Have you already some results from your work?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; In this research project, we consider solving\u00a0optimization\/learning problems in smart networks, which occur in many engineering problems. We have studied two research problems in this project. One is allocating power in the smart grid in an economic and safe way, that is, achieving the lowest cost without breaking any physical constraints. Another is designing adaptive\u00a0learning rates relying on the real system delay in asynchronous algorithms, which can greatly improve the convergence speed of\u00a0algorithms. Both topics are new and interesting.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>Your research interests include distributed optimization and federated learning. In particular, you focus on algorithmic foundations, convergence analysis, and resource efficiency in emerging systems such as IoT and cyber-physical systems \u2013 why did you decide to focus on these topics?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; Efficient data usage is the core of digitalization, and\u00a0optimization and learning are the main tools to\u00a0achieve\u00a0this goal. \u00a0In optimization and learning,\u00a0algorithm design and convergence analysis are the most important two parts,\u00a0where algorithms solve problems and\u00a0convergence analysis guarantees the\u00a0reliability of algorithms, and\u00a0improving resource\u00a0efficiency in emerging systems is an important application of optimization and learning.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>Finally, tell us a little bit about yourself!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; I arrived in Sweden in December 2020 and I love this place, especially its forest and snow. I wish to travel through this country and its neighbors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a
