Goals:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This part of the BADGE project aims at developing sustainable writing skills in two directions: firstly, academic writing skills that will\nprepare students for writing their final-year thesis and, secondly,\nprofessional writing skills that will help students be better equipped for the\ndemands of workplace writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IO: Designing a curriculum for an innovative, 30 h, modular,\nadaptable, blended learning course at English\nB2-C2 level for academic and professional writing\nclosely connected to the requirements of a 21st century working environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developing academic and professional writing\nskills for Bachelor\u2019s and Master’s programs. Developing teaching\nmaterial and teaching\nresources for ESP instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We intend this project\nto:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foster European citizenship by student collaboration on projects that will focus\non comparing the Code\nof Ethics of European national Technological\nChambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Promote ethical reasoning by also exposing student teams from\ndifferent countries to ethical concerns that arise\nwhen changes in technology make uncertain the application of existing codes\nof ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhance critical thinking by understanding audience needs and genre\nconventions through genre-\nconversion tasks, that is, converting (parts of) a research article to a\npopular science article, changing a popular\nscience article to a research\nabstract or converting a lab report\nto a research abstract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produce Creative Commons\nmaterial for use by language\ninstructors at engineering and\/or technical\ndepartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produce adaptable and transferable modules\nthat language instructors can modify according to the needs and requirements of their curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Target groups:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students in HE, who need to develop their\nacademic writing skills in order to cope with the demands\nof their curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final-year students who are working\non their final-year thesis. ESP\ninstructors in engineering\/technical departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expected Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating sustainable writing\nskills, i.e. developing and enhancing expertise by means of continuous\npractice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating an atmosphere of team spirit\nand also promoting international collaboration by encouraging\nstudents and instructors to share their knowledge and to foster peer revision,\nthus promoting intercultural competences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staying in touch with the requirements of the industry\nregarding the use as well as type of written documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Providing ESP\ninstructors with teaching materials and teaching resources.
